Obesity: Over 60% of Americans are now overweight or obese and in the past 30 yrs the obesity rate has doubled. Research has linked obesity to at least 20 chronic diseases. We spend 30- $40 billion / year on diets and weight loss products.
Obese people visit their physicians 40% more than normal weight people.
Obese people are 2.5 times more likely to require drugs prescribed for cardiovascular and circulation disorders
Heart Disease: The AHA estimates direct and indirect costs of heart disease to be more than $304 billion a year in the U.S.
Diabetes: 7.8% of our population has been diagnosed with Diabetes and 57 million people are estimated to be pre-diabetic. In 2007 total costs of diabetes in the United States was $218 billion.
Cancer: According to the American Cancer Society, 1/2 of all men and 1/3 of all women in the U.S. will develop cancer in their lifetime. This translates to more than 1.2 million new cases diagnosed each year.
Of these cases only 5-10% result from inherited defective genes that predispose a person to a very high risk of certain types of cancer. The remaining cases result from lifestyle choices.
The National Cancer Institute estimates that at least 35% of all cancers have a nutritional connection. (excluding exercise and smoking)
Overall, diet is the second leading factor (after smoking) connected to cancer.

HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT?
Our Integrative Approach (vs. counting calories)
Diets, deprivation and counting calories have not proven to work. They are a short-term solution, based on the premise that it’s something you do for a short amount of time. Counting calories or following cookie cuter diets, don’t address the underlying reason of the major diseases that plague our society today.
In our programs and coaching sessions, we integrate many tools and different dietary theories, which are based on traditional, western science, as well as complimentary alternative medicine and modern dietary methods.
We believe that ultimate wellness, is achieved by addressing the underlying causes of our health issues, rather than dampening the symptoms alone. Similarly, weight loss incorporates balancing and restoring our health on many levels, not just counting calories or points. Therefore, most of the emphasis of my services is placed on education and prevention rather than treatment.
